WVU basketball picks up first win of season
The West Virginia Mountaineers picked up their first win of the season Thursday in the Myrtle Beach Invitational.
After leading by six at halftime, Mountaineers (1-1) pulled away in the second half and defeated Monmouth (0-4) 71-53.
WVU was led in scoring by senior Esa Ahmad who scored 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting. Junior Sagaba Konate scored 14 points and pulled in 8 rebounds.
The Mountaineers shot 45.7 percent from the field, but struggled from long range, shooting just 26 percent from 3-point range.
WVU will take on Western Kentucky (2-1) Friday at 9 p.m. in the second round of the Myrtle Beach Invitational.
