West Virginia routes Delaware State
The West Virginia Mountaineers cruised to victory in their week three win over the Delaware State Hornets.
The Mountaineers (2-1) took a demanding 45-10 lead into the halftime locker room and cruised to a 59-16 win over the visiting Hornets (0-3).
Quarterback Will Greer led the way for the Mountaineers going 19-27 for 304 yards and three touchdowns. With a big lead, the Mountaineers second string quarterback, Chris Chugunov entered the game in the second half and threw for 30 yards and a touchdown.
Gary Jennings led all wide receivers with six catches and 128 receiving yards.
Justin Crawford rushed for three touchdowns and 102 yards to learn the Mountaineers’ rushing attack.
WVU held the Hornets to just 301 total yards and only allowed Delaware State to convert on two of 13 third down situations.
The Mountaineers will now turn their focus to Big 12 play when they travel to Lawrence to take on the Kansas Jawhawks (1-2).
Last season, WVU defeated Kansas 48-21 in Morgantown.
Kickoff for the Mountaineers’ first conference game is set for noon eastern on Saturday Sept. 23.
