Marshall Basketball: Herd Heartbreaker -- Jean's halfcourt shot wins it for La. Tech

Marshall lost a hearbreaker with Louisiana Tech on Thursday night.

Who needs overtime?

Not Louisiana Tech.

Thanks to Derric Jean's halfcourt shot at the buzzer, the visiting Bulldogs garnered a 97-94 win on the road at the Cam Henderson Center against Marshall.

The heartbreaker for the Herd was their third straight Conference USA loss. The two teams entered the game in a three-way tie for second place with Middle Tennessee in the final week of the season.

The loss drops Marshall to 15-15 and 11-6 in the league. La. Tech moves to 23-7 and 12-5 in C-USA.

Alex Hamilton had a monster game for the Bulldogs with 38. He was one of four players in double figures. Erik McCree had 22, Dayon Griffin 18 and Jean finished with 10.

James Kelly led a quartet of Herd players in double figures with 27. Jon Elmore delivered 18, Stevie Browning finished with 16 and C.J. Burkes scored 12.

Marshall will look to rebound in its final game of the regular season on Saturday at home against Southern Mississippi.

The Conference USA Men's Basketball Tournament is set for next week in Birmingham, Alabama.
