WVU guard Jevon Carter submits name for 2017 NBA Draft
West Virginia University junior guard Jevon Carter, who led the Mountaineer men’s basketball team in scoring and was the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, has submitted his name for the 2017 NBA draft.
Carter will not hire an agent as he seeks to become a professional player, the university said in a news release.
“Jevon will go through the process in a systematic and professional manner by exploring the situation and leaving open his option to come back for his senior season,” Coach Bob Huggins said.
A native of Maywood, Illinois, Carter led the Mountaineers in scoring at 13.5 points per game and in steals with 92 on the season.
Carter also was a big part of “Press Virginia” defensive effort that forced many turnovers during the season on the way to WVU’s 28-9 season and advancing to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. He was named the NABC Defensive Player of the Year, the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, All-Big 12 Conference Second Team and named to the All-Big 12 Defensive Team for the third year in a row.
