University of Charleston wins men's soccer national championship
The University of Charleston defeated Lynn (Florida) in a penalty shootout to win the NCAA Division II national championship.
The Golden Eagles (22-1-2) defeated the Fighting Knights 3-1 in penalties to win the first national championship in school history.
Charleston had reached the national semifinals four straight years and had played in three of the last four title games, but had never come out victorious until Saturday night.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Paulo Pita made two saves in the penalty shootout and led the way for the Golden Eagles.
Redshirt senior Thomas Vancaeyezeele, sophomore Robert Lapert and junior Patrcik Guier all scored in the penalty shootout for UC.
