Lady Yellow Jackets tennis team wins region; head to Final 16

CHARLESTON, W.Va (WCHS/WVAH) - The West Virginia State Women's tennis team is heading to the Final 16 for the first time in school history.

The Lady Yellow Jackets downed the Mercyhurst Lakers in the Atlantic Region 2 title, 5-4, at Coonskin Park.

It's the 11th straight year the Yellow Jackets have been in the NCAA Tournament, but the first its hosted a regional, and first, they've advanced to the round of 16.

WVSU dropped two of the three doubles matches but stormed back winning four of the six singles matches.

The team's lone senior, Nina Dilwald, won the tie-breaking match to boost the Yellow Jackets to its 5-4 win over the Lakers.

Head coach J.T. Simms and the Lady Yellow Jackets head to Scottsdale, Arizona to compete in the final rounds of the tournament, May 8-11.
