Ex-Hurricane football coach who coaches in Florida safe after school shooting
A one-time head football coach at Hurricane High School who is in charge of the football program at a Florida school where there was a mass shooting is safe after the incident.
Willis May is head of the football program at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where reports say a shooting left at least 17 dead. Authorities say the gunman is in custody.
May's son sent out a tweet, saying his father is OK following the shooting.
Since 2012, May has been the head football coach at the Florida school. He has had great success leading 28 players to the next level of competition.
May was Hurricane's head coach from 2004-2011. He guided six of those teams to the state playoffs. He was the Mountain State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2011.
