A late comeback effort fell short as Marshall fell to Florida International 41-30.

Marshall (6-2,3-1) out gained the Panthers (5-2,3-1) 505-401, but turned the ball over three times en route to its first Conference USA loss of the season.

The Panthers jumped out to an early start and led Marshall 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Marshall got on the board with 7:37 left in the second quarter when Chase Litton connected with Willie Johnson for a 15 yard touchdown pass.

Florida International would take the momentum right back, and scored 14 points in the final 4:55 of the first half to take a 28-7 lead into halftime.

The Panther's added a fifth touchdown midway through the third quarter to take a commanding 35-7 lead.

Marshall's offense would then start to get into a little bit of a rhythm. Less than two minutes after the Panther's scored, Tyler King scored on a 26 yard run to cut FIU's lead to 35-14.

Marshall's defense gave up a field goal early in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers a 38-14 lead, but Marshall would not quit.

With 7:00 left in the final frame, Litton found Marcel Williams for a 24 yard touchdown. A converted two point conversion would cut FIU's lead to 38-22.

Then, with 2:44 remaining, Litton found Tyre Brady for an 8 yard score. Marshall would again convert a two point try and cut the Panther's lead to 38-30.

Trailing by just one possession, Marshall was unable to recover a late onside kick. FIU would add a field goal with :26 remaining to take its final lead of 41-30.

Litton led Marshall's offense with 363 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Keion Davis rushed for 85 yards and Tyler King rushed for 82 yards and a touchdown.

Marshall will be back in action Friday, Nov. 3, when the Herd takes on Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida at 6 p.m.
