HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) — Marshall University has released its 2019 football schedule which features matchups with two top-25 teams and seven home games.
Marshall will kick off its season on Aug. 31 when it hosts VMI. The Keydets were 1-10 in 2018.
On Sept. 7, the Herd will travel west to take on Boise State on the "Smurf Turf" of Albertsons Stadium. The Bronco's finished the 2018 season 10-3 and were ranked No. 23 in the final rankings.
The next week, Marshall will host former MAC rival Ohio in the Battle for the Bell. The Bobcats finished the 2018 season with a 9-4 record.
The two teams have a long history, with Ohio leading the all-time series 33-20-6. Marshall and Ohio last met in 2015 when the Bobcats won 21-10.
Following a bye week, Marshall will host Cincinnati on Sept. 28. The Bearcats were ranked No. 24 in the final rankings after finishing 2018 with an 11-2 record.
The two teams last played in 2017 when Marshall went on the road and defeated Cincinnati 38-21. The Bearcats lead the all-time series with Marshall 8-4-1.
Marshall's final three non-conference opponents finished the 2018 season with a combined record of 30-9.
The Herd will kick off Conference USA play on the road when it visits Middle Tennessee on Oct. 5.
Last season, Marshall fell to the Blue Raiders 34-24. The Herd leads the all-time series 5-3.
The Herd will return home on Oct. 12 for its first home conference game of the season against Old Dominion.
In 2018, Marshall went to Norfolk, Va. and defeated the Monarchs 42-20. Marshall is 4-1 in five meetings with Old Dominion.
On Oct. 19, the Herd will travel to Boca Raton to take on Florida Atlantic.
Last season, the Herd defeated the Owls 31-7. Marshall is 5-1 all-time against Florida Atlantic.
Marshall will return home on Oct. 26 to wake on Western Kentucky.
Last season, Marshall scored with under two minutes remaining to defeat the Hilltoppers 20-17. The Herd leads the series with Western Kentucky 6-4.
On Nov. 2, the Herd will make the trip to Houston to take on the Rice Owls.
Marshall and the Owls last played in 2014 when the Herd won 41-14. The Herd leads the all-time series 4-2.
Marshall will get a week off after the Rice game before taking on Louisiana Tech on Nov. 16.
The Herd and Bulldogs last met in the 2014 Conference USA championship game, which the Herd won 26-23.
On Nov. 23, Marshall will travel to Charlotte to take on the 49ers.
Last season, Marshall defeated Charlotte 30-13. The Herd is 3-1 all-time against the 49ers.
The Herd will conclude its regular season on Nov 30 when it hosts Florida International.
The Herd defeated FIU 28-25 last season and leads the all-time series 5-2.
Game times have not been announced at this time.
Marshall is coming off a 9-4 season that was capped off with a 38-20 win over South Florida in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl.
