Time, date set for recount of 38th District House of Delegates GOP race
KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Kanawha County commissioners set a time for a recount for the House of Delegates 38th District GOP race and certified results for several other races.
Sitting as the Board of Canvassers, commissioners on Wednesday set the recount for the 38th District House race for 1 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at the Voter’s Registration Office in Charleston.
The recount comes after the commissioners approved a request – submitted by candidate Cindy Farley - for a hand count concerning the Republican Party nomination for the House of Delegates in the 38th Delegate District.
In that GOP race, unofficial results showed Dianna Graves defeating Farley by 84 votes - 905 to 821.
Commissioners said in a news release that the requesting party is responsible for the cost of the recount if the results of the election remain unchanged. The County Clerk’s Office has estimated that the cost could exceed $4,000.
The 38th District spans both Kanawha and Putnam counties and includes areas of Cross Lanes and Nitro in Kanawha County.
On Wednesday, the commissioners certified the election results for board of education, county magistrate and the public safety levy.
