Cabell, Wayne, Lincoln teachers plan walkout this week
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
American Federation of Teachers representatives in Cabell, Wayne, and Lincoln counties have called for a work stoppage on Friday, Feb. 16.
Instead of attending classes, they will rally at the West Virginia Capitol during the 11 a.m. session.
AFT representatives in Huntington said Mason County representatives also met in Point Pleasant Tuesday night to discuss a similar walkout.
In addition, union representatives on the state level have called for a statewide rally at the capitol on Saturday.
The teacher unions are protesting proposed pay raises that they say are too low and increased costs to their PEIA insurance plans. The House of Delegates and Senate have each passed pay raise proposals that many teachers said are insufficient.
