Elderly man rescued after rising water surrounds Salt Rock home
An elderly man was rescued from his home after high water prevented him from going to the hospital.
It happened about noon Monday off of Route 10 in Salt Rock in Cabell County.
Officials said the elderly man had a medical condition and needed to get to the hospital. Rescue officials said the water was about 4 feet high around the home. A raft was deployed and emergency personnel paddled their way to his home
“We don’t get a lot of calls in this area, but when someone does now we have to find a way,” Chad Ward of Cabell County EMS said. “There is a walking trail to get in there, but it’s hard for someone who is elderly. It is some distance where we'd have to get them to. Just the challenge of getting there and getting them out of the residence and getting them back to safety."
The disaster team was able to reach the man and get him to an ambulance which took him to the hospital.
A water rescue is underway in Salt Rock due to rising water surrounding an elderly man’s home.
The rescue is off of Route 10 and Holiday Park Drive. EMS officials said water is about 4 feet high around the home where an elderly man with a medical condition lives. Officials said he needs to go to the hospital but is unable to get out.
There are no guard rails, so the road is not visible. Chad Ward with Cabell County EMS said the only way to get to the man is to paddle out to him and someone bring him out.
