Putnam County students are learning first-hand the effects of drunk driving, thanks to a DUI simulator.

The simulator program was set up Thursday at Poca High School as part of a driver's education class.

The simulator mimics the difficulty drivers would encounter at various stages of alcohol intoxication and shows firsthand how dangerous drinking and driving can be.

''Oh, I was surprised at the first one,” Noah Thompson said. “It started getting a little hard and then when it got up to the 0.08 it was like you really can't control it. You take one little turn and you’re in the other lane."

The first round of students to try out the simulator came from Buffalo High School with Poca students getting a chance to try the course afterwards.
