Huntington Police Chief Hank Dial said a Huntington patrol officer was dragged by a vehicle while trying to make an arrest.

Dial said the officer was responding about 9:20 p.m. Thursday to a call of drug activity in the area of Ninth Avenue and 22nd Street. When officers arrived, Dial said they realized it was criminal activity and attempted to make an arrest.

As the officer tried to arrest the suspect, Dial said the suspect drove off, dragging an officer.

Dial said other Huntington police officers fired at the suspect to get the individual to stop, which the person eventually did.

The officer was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Dial said the suspect was also taken to the hospital, but the person's condition has not been released at this time.

The suspect was later identified as Daymon Matthew Everage, 29, of Emmalena, Ky.

Everage has been charged with malicious assault on a law enforcement officer, obstructing an officer, and fleeing from an officer. He is being held in the Western Regional Jail $100,000 cash only bond.
