Deputies investigating after body of man found in Lawrence County, Ohio
The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office is investigating after the body of a man was found at the bottom of a ravine in the Washington Township.
The body of Jason Caldwell, 39, of South Webster was found about 9 a.m. Friday in a wooded area on County Road 33 near the Blackfork area, according to a news release from the department.
Detectives said they interviewed a man and woman who said they had been fishing with Caldwell when he decided to wander into the woods to look for bottles Thursday evening. Detectives said Caldwell didn't return and the two companions began to search for him until midnight. The two returned early Friday morning, found Caldwell and contacted the sheriff's office.
Detectives believe he fell down an embankment from the top of a ravine. There were no signs of foul play but the cause of death could not be determined.
Caldwell's body was taken to the Coroner's Office in Montgomery County for an autopsy.
