Charleston police say man charged after stabbing at West Side apartment building

    Charleston police said a man was arrested after a stabbing at a West Side apartment building that occurred after an argument over money.

    Michael William Haynes, 62, was placed under arrest on a malicious wounding incident after an incident at Agsten Manor apartment building in the 700 block of Randolph Street, according to a news release from the Charleston Police Department.

    Police said the victim, Jerry Gray, 69, sustained multiple stab wounds to the abdomen area. He was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital, where he was in surgery and was in stable condition.

    Haynes was an acquaintance of Gray’s and remained on the scene when police arrived. Police said Haynes also had a Charleston Municipal Court warrant for an alcohol-related offense.

    Police said the suspect is currently being processed and will be arraigned in Kanawha County Magistrate Court. The Criminal Investigation Division is processing the scene and conducting the investigation.

    Agsten Manor's Facebook page said the facility provides affordable housing to people 62 or older or under 62 with a mobility impairment.
