It's a classic staple of Broadway, still entertaining audiences nationwide more than 80 years after its debut on the Great White Way.

Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" focuses on the action aboard an ocean liner headed from New York to London.

A stowaway, an heiress, a nightclub singer and a two-bit gangster all come together in a story filled with love and laughter, carried along by its songs including the title number, "You're the Top" and "I Get a Kick Out Of You."

"It's a lot of fun," Cameron Vance (Billy Crocker) said. "A lot of catchy tunes. A lot of songs that people are familiar with but may not realize are part of this show. A lot of laughs, a lot of levity and it's got a great happy ending."

"This is a classic for a reason," Toni Pilato (Reno Sweeney) said. "It's a good, old-fashioned Cole Porter musical. Happy endings, a lot of comedy, great music. If you like musical theatre you really can't go wrong with a show like this."

The winner of six Tony awards in its long and storied history, the tale of a likeable loser who falls in love with a out-of-reach heiress and receives unlikely help from a nightclub singer and a gangster has delighted audiences since Porter first staged it in 1934.

"I think it takes kind of a different change because you're switching on characters and couples," Maxwell Ross (Lord Evelyn Oakley) said. "So, I think people can really relate to the real-life feel of change instead of the classic happily ever after."

This is the third time the Charleston Light Opera Guild has produced the classic, with previous shows in 1988 and 2005. Staging the production at the intimate Guild theater ensures audience members will have an up close view of the singing and dancing.

"I think it's just a really fun show," Andrea Mashayekhi (Hope Harcourt) said. "It's a really classic musical that everyone can enjoy. It has the really sweet and romantic numbers that people can get into, And they have big show stopper numbers that are just really fun to watch and to listen to, so I think there's really for something for everybody."
