Game 8: Morgantown downs George Washington in state boys tourney

Morgantown held off George Washington in the quarter round in Class AAA of the West Virginia boys basketball tournament.

The Mohigans defeated the Patriots 56 to 45 Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center.

Morgantown was led by Torin Hanson, who connected for 24 points. Nicky Solomon had 14. Meanwhile, George Washington's top scorers were Tracy Conliffe and Justin Phillips, who each had 10.

Morgantown will next take on Capital at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinal. Capital roared past Parkersburg South 85 to 65 on Wednesday.
