North-South All-Star Football Classic preview Friday, game Saturday
CHARLESTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
If you are looking for a sporting event to enjoy this weekend, a little football action just might foot the bill.
The annual WCHS-TV/Fox 11 North-South All-Star Football Classic is Saturday night at Charleston's University of Charleston Stadium.
This year's game will be the 41st since 1976, featuring more than 70 of the state's top football players.
The teams reported to West Virginia State University in Institute on Sunday, where they have been practicing and living. Every night they have enjoyed various activities, including, a pool party, movies, bowling, Thursday night's power game and Friday night's North-South Basketball Classic. Classic game director Bob Mullett said for $8 you'll be truly entertained Saturday night.
"I think they'll get a treat," Mullett said. "It's going to be evenly matched. We talk about whose winning, whose losing the past several years, it means nothing. It's square one. Lot of fireworks. I think it will be highly competitive. I've watched practices. You miss something if you don't come see it. It's going to be a great game -- great weather. We're excited about it. Can't wait to kick it off."
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Saturday. The South has won the last six games in the Classic. Join us at 11:30 p.m. Friday on Fox 11 for our 2016 WCHS-TV/Fox 11 North-South All-Star Football Classic preview. Show highlights will include game notes, player features and a chat with the two head coaches.
