Meigs, Point Pleasant meet in Wendy's Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week

The Meigs Marauders will head across the Ohio River to take on Point Pleasant in our Wendy’s Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week presented by the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute.

The two schools sit just 16 miles apart.

The Marauders (3-4) are led by head coach Mike Bartrum, who played football at Marshall University and played in two Super Bowls. In 1997 he played in Super Bowl XXXI with the New England Patriots and in 2005 he played in Super Bowl XXXIX with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Bartum’s Marauders are coming off a 19-18 loss at Athens and will be looking to break a two-game losing streak.

Meigs is scoring just 21 points a game, while allowing 28.2 points a game. Here is a look at how the Mauraders have fared this season:

  • Week 1: 14-8 win vs. Gallia Academy
  • Week 2: 47-6 loss vs. St. Clairsville
  • Week 3: 26-22 loss at Logan
  • Week 4: 28-21 win vs. Vinton
  • Week 5: 45-28 win at River Valley

  • Week 7: 19-18 loss at Athens

The Point Pleasant Big Blacks (5-2) are looking to rebound after a 42- 13 loss last week at Bluefield. It was just thier second loss of the season.

The Big Blacks have been road warriors so far this season, playing five of their seven games on the road. They have won four of those five road games.

Point Pleasant’s two losses have come against the top two Class AA teams in West Virginia. In the opening week of the season the Big Blacks fell to Mingo Central (6-0) 36-34, and last week they fell to Bluefield (7-0).

Through seven games, Point Pleasant is scoring 34.2 points a game, but the Big Blacks' defense has been the key to their success. In their five wins, the Big Blacks are giving up just 8.8 points a game, but they have surrender 39 points per game in their two losses.
