Kanawha County rivals to meet in Wendy's Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week

The South Charleston Black Eagles and Capital Cougars will square off in the shadows of the Capitol dome in our Wendy's Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week presented by the Marshall Sports Medicine Institute.

South Charleston (3-5) will take on the Cougars (5-3) at UC Stadium Friday night in the penultimate week of the regular season.

The Black Eagles will be looking to break a streak of two consecutive losses, including a 23-0 loss last week against the undefeated No. 1 Huntington Highlanders.

South Charleston's offense is averaging just 14 points a game and has been shut out on twice. In the last four games, the Black Eagles have scored a combined 13 points. South Charleston's defense is giving up 24.5 points per game on the season.

Here is a look at how South Charleston has fared so far this season:

Week 1: 13-12 win vs George Washington

Week 2: 49-17 loss vs Cabell Midland

Week 3: 41-28 loss vs Johnson Central (KY)

Week 4: 41-20 win at Riverside

Week 5: 35-0 loss at Spring Valley

Week 7: 7-0 win at Ripley

Week 8: 16-6 loss vs St. Albans

Week 9: 23-0 loss at Huntington

Sitting outside the top 16, the Capital Cougars need to get back in the win column if they hope to make the playoffs.

Like South Charleston, Capital comes into this week 10 matchup coming off a loss. The Cougars fell to Spring Valley 35-28.

Led by quarterback Kerry Martin Jr., Capital's offense has scored just over 37 points per game this season. The Cougars' defense has given up nearly 24 points a game this season.
