The Huntington Highlanders jumped out to an early lead over Parkersburg and never looked back in our Wendy's Friday Night Rivals Game of the Week presented by Marshall Sports Medicine Institute.

After a slow start, the scoring got started midway through the first quarter when Huntington quarterback Luke Zban connected with Mikal Dawson, who shredded a would-be tackler and walked into the end zone for an 75 yard touchdown.

Just two minutes later, Zban found Dawson again for a touchdown. This time from 25 yards out to put the Highlanders up 14-0 late in the first.

Midway through the third quarter, Huntington forced Parkersburg to punt. Huntington's Jadon Hayes fielded the low punt on one bounce, found a seam up the middle and was gone. Hayes took the punt 77 yards to the house to give the Highlanders a 21-0 lead.

On Parkersburg's ensuing drive, quarterback Kam Mace fired a pass across the middle and it was snagged by Seth Dailey who split a pair of Highlander defenders and got Parkersburg on the board. Huntington still led 21-7.

On the next drive, Huntington's Chris Rogers took the inside hand-off on 3rd &1 and took it 42 yards to put Huntington up 28-7.

Parkersburg would not go away though. Facing a 2nd & 24, Mace tossed a screen pass to Brenton Strange and Strange did the rest of the work, streaking 88 yards to the endzone. Parkersburg trailed 28-14.

Late in the fourth quarter, Hayes capped off a long Huntington drive with a 9 yard touchdown run to put the Highlanders up 35-14.

Parkersburg would get one last score with just over 30 seconds left when Mace connected with Strange once again, this time from 38 yards out, but the Big Reds fell short to the Highlanders 35-21.

With 197 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown and a 77 yard punt return touchdown, Hayes was named the Five Star Chevrolet Player of the Game.

Hayes was also named the St. Mary's Medical Center Student Athlete of the Week.
