Game 19: Notre Dame wins Class A state championship

The Clarksburg Notre Dame Fighting Irish boy’s basketball team are West Virginia Class A champions.

Just a day after St. Patrick’s Day, the No. 4 Fighting Irish (23-5) defeated No. 2 Ravenswood (24-3) 63-55 Saturday to win the school’s first state basketball title.

Notre Dame was led by Marshall University commit Jarrod West who shot 9-13 from the field, and 4-4 from 3-point range, to score 29 points for the Irish. West also dished out 6 assists, pulled in 4 rebounds and got 4 steals.

West led the way for the Irish throughout the tournament, scoring 26.6 points, 6.3 rebound and 5.6 assists per game.

Notre Dame’s Gabe Zummo also reached double-figures scoring 15.

Riley Heatherington led the way for Ravenswood with 25 points and 8 rebounds. In the state tournament Heatherington scored 22.3 points a game and averaged 8 rebounds a game.

In the first round, Notre Dame cruised past No. 5 Gilmer County 66-45, and in the semifinals, the Irish beat No. 1 Wheeling Central 73-51.

Both West and Heatherington were also named to the Class A All-Tournament team:
