Game 12: Mingo Central advances to Class AA semifinals

In the final game of the first round of the boys state basketball tournament, the Mingo Central Miners blew out the Colts of Philip Barbour.

No. 5 Mingo Central (20-6) never trailed in its 75-52 opening round win over No. 4 Philip Barbour (22-4).

Drew Hatfield led all scorers will 23 points for the Miners. He filled the stat sheet adding 6 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. Keshean Rhodes scored 15 and Canaan Fletcher scored 12 for Mingo Central.

Duel sport standout Jeremy Dillon, who led the Miners’ football team to a state championship, scored 11 and dished out 9 assists.

Austin Upton was the only Colt to score in double-figures, finishing the game with 16 points.

The Miners will take on No. 1 Fairmont Senior in the Class AA semifinals Friday at 7:15 p.m.
