Game 11: Huntington advances to semifinals with win over Musselman

After the Huntington High girl’s basketball team won the Class AAA state title last week, the boy’s team is looking to follow suit and got their tournament started off with a win Thursday night.

No. 3 Huntington (20-5) advanced to the semifinal with a 65-48 win over No. 6 Musselman (21-5).

The Highlanders were led by the Dawsons who scored 44 of Huntington’s 65 points. Mikal Dawson led the way scoring 29 points on 13-18 shooting and grabbing 9 rebounds. John Dawson was a stat sheet stuffer scoring 15. He also had 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

Huntington’s Grant Subik also scored in double-figures with 14 points.

Musselman trailed by just 2 heading into the locker room at halftime, but the Highlanders used a big third quarter, outscoring the Applemen 22-12, to pull away.

In the Class AAA semifinals, Huntington will take on No. 2 University (24-2), which defeated Martinsburg (17-9) 58-46 in the first round. That semifinal game will be played at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
