VIEWER TIP LEADS TO CAPTURE OF FIVE OF THE "TEXAS SEVEN"

The "Texas Seven" have been on the run since a prison break in mid December, 2000. Five of these felons have been captured as a direct result of a viewer watching America's Most Wanted. This has been confirmed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The tip came from Teller County, Colorado where a viewer phoned the AMW hotline as well as their local police department. This was the fourth installment of America's Most Wanted dedicated to the apprehension of these armed and dangerous felons.

Accused Bank Robber Who Appeared On Jerry Springer with His Transsexual Girlfriend Captured by 'America's Most Wanted'

Jeffrey Scott Durham, who police say is wanted for more than five armed robberies in different parts of the country, as well as an attempted murder, was arrested today, according to the Santa Barbara (California) Police Department.

During his alleged crime spree, Durham appeared as a guest on the syndicated TV program "The Jerry Springer Show." The segment was about men and their transsexual girlfriends. Durham reportedly met his lover in prison (but lied about this fact to "The Jerry Springer Show") while the lover was going through his sexual transformation. Upon their release from prison, they continued their relationship -- Durham as a man, and his partner as a woman. Durham reportedly also continued robbing banks.

According to police, Durham's M.O. was to steal a van before the robbery, tint the windows and remove all identifiable markings. The next day, police say Durham would dress in an FBI vest and military gear, then enter the bank and rob it at gunpoint. The robberies were reportedly very quick, with Durham and his partner, Lloyd Clayton, completing them in under 55 seconds. Clayton has yet to be arrested.

Durham appeared on AMERICA'S MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK twice --once on April 25, 1998 and again on December 12, 1998. Not only did Durham see himself during both broadcasts, but also his girlfriend reportedly hurried off the phone on the night of December 12, telling a friend that her boyfriend had just been on AMERICA'S MOST WANTED, and they had to run. During both broadcasts, Jerry Springer hosted the AMW segment from his studio, noting that "Durham really had everyone fooled." He didn't fool everyone, however.

Durham was admitted to the hospital yesterday with burns to his neck, chest and arms. Police say his burns resulted from making bombs in his motor home. The on-duty nurse at the hospital contacted the Santa Barbara Police Department, which is hospital policy for these types of injuries. The police then contacted Florida authorities who ran Durham's false name, John Lee Petty, into the State of Florida Driver's License information computer -- and it matched an alias connected to Durham. This new alias was called into the AMW Hotline just last Saturday night. Durham was subsequently arrested. Durham is the 539th fugitive captured as a direct result of the program.

Two Female Fugitives Captured as a Direct Result of America's Most Wanted: America Fights Back

Two female fugitives, wanted for murder and aiding an escape, were arrested on Monday, Sept. 28,1998 in Rhode Island. Tracey Lee Poirer was arrested in a bakery in Cranston, RI, while her female companion, Pamela Kay Trimble, was arrested shortly thereafter while working in Providence, RI. The captures were a direct result of a viewer tip from the FOX hit crime-fighting series AMERICA'S MOST WANTED: AMERICA FIGHTS BACK.

Poirer was serving life without parole for the brutal murder of Donald Fish. Fish was lured from a bar by Poirer and her female companion at the time, Tammy Upton. Due to his small stature, Poirer and Upton overpowered Fish, then brutally beat him to death with rocks on a riverbank. Police say their motive was robbery.

While in prison at the Oregon Women's Correctional Center, Poirer met Trimble, who was working as a prison guard. Trimble resigned after investigators learned that she had fallen in love with Poirer. Authorities say Trimble helped Poirer escape by breaking a window and cutting through the outer fence of the prison.

Poirer and Thimble are the 523rd and 524th fugitives to be captured as a direct result of the series. Their case was featured Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998.
