Ryan Seacrest Host of American Idol
Given his successful broadcasting career, it's no wonder E! Online named 28-year-old Ryan Seacrest one of the "20 Young Guns Under 30 Who Hold Hollywood's Future in Their Hands" and why he was voted as one of People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful" for 2003.Seacrest recently signed a production and development deal with Twentieth Century Fox and has taken over from Casey Kasem in counting down "The American Top 40" every week on the nation's top radio stations. "AT40" is an institution in the radio world, and with Seacrest at the reins, it will be broadcast on more stations in larger markets than ever before. Radio stations nationwide will be able to access the show via satellite or the Internet, ensuring up-to-the-minute music chart information. This season Seacrest will reprise his role as sole host of FOX's No. 1 hit American Idol, which helped FOX enjoy its highest-ever ratings share. His hosting credits also include "EXTRA Weekends," "Talk Soup," the "Radio Music Awards," "The New Edge" and "An Evening at the Academy Awards." This year, Seacrest serves as a correspondent for "The Tonight Show." In addition to his hosting credits, he signed a deal with AT&T Wireless to brand the world of text messaging. Seacrest played a huge role in bringing this medium to people's attention during the second season of American Idol. Seacrest signed a deal (through 2005) with Clear Channel Radio to be the exclusive guest-host for Rick Dees. Such an honor has never been bestowed upon any individual in the years Dees has been on the air. Seacrest is excited to be a part of not one, but two of the largest radio brands in the world (KIIS-FM and KYSR-FM). Originally from Atlanta, Seacrest began his professional career in broadcasting at the age of 16, when he applied for an internship at one of Atlanta's top radio stations, WSTR/Star 94. Impressed by his talent, the station offered him the nighttime slot (7:00 PM to midnight), and the show became one of its highest-rated. While working at Atlanta's Star 94, Seacrest finished high school and went on to attend the University of Georgia, where he majored in journalism. During his freshman year in college, Seacrest was offered his first television show, as the host of ESPN's "Radical Outdoor Challenge," in which athletes competed against one another for cash prizes. In 1995, Seacrest relocated to Los Angeles to further his radio career and is currently the host of the No. 1-rated weekday afternoon show, "Ryan Seacrest for the Ride Home," on KYSR-FM/Star 98.7. He also has a live, nationally syndicated 90-minute performance show featuring music's biggest artists, which launched in July 2001. Seacrest has interviewed chart-topping acts like Sting, Elton John and Dave Matthews, and gone one-on-one with celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Dustin Hoffman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez.
