West Virginia Wesleyan College announced it has eliminated 15 staff positions and decided not to renew contracts for 10 faculty members and two staff members with teaching responsibilities.

The reductions at the college, based in Buckhannon in Upshur County, are caused by market pressures and revenue challenges, according to a statement from the school.

Contracts for the teaching positions that are not being renewed are for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Each of the 15 staff members whose positions was eliminated has been offered a severance package.

“Every person that was impacted was a highly respected and valued employee,” the school’s statement said. “Wesleyan has not eliminated any academic, athletic, or student development program. WVWC has taken this step to ensure that future budgets and staffing are sustainable to support the students Wesleyan serves.”
