Troopers say baby dies in two-vehicle crash in Scioto County
WASHINGTON, Ohio (WCHS/WVAH) —
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said an 18-month old girl died and her mother was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in Scioto County.
Aerilyn J. Lowe died Tuesday, according to State Highway Patrol.
The accident happened about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday on State Route 73 in the Washington township, according to a news release. Troopers said the driver of a Pontiac Vibe traveling southbound on Route 73 drove left of center and struck a Ford Freestar head-on.
The driver of the Ford Freestar and three young children were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.
The driver of the Pontiac Vibe, his female passenger in the front seat and the 18-month old girl were taken to separate hospitals. The 18-month old girl was pronounced dead at Cabell Huntington Hospital. The woman, who is the mother of the girl, is in critical condition at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Troopers said the baby was restrained in the car seat but the driver and passenger were not wearing seat belts. Troopers said drugs or alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in the cause of the crash.
