Police say man charged with attempted murder hospitalized for overdose

The Ashland Police Department said a man charged in a shooting was hospitalized for an overdose.

Michael Kelley, 35, of Ashland was charged with attempted murder in connection to an early morning shooting, police said.

The shooting happened about 5 a.m. Tuesday at the Winchester Inn in Ashland. Police said Kelley and the victim were acquaintances and got into a disagreement. Police said Kelley shot the victim, who suffered a wound to his forehead. The victim was treated and released from the hospital.

Police said Kelley was located at the Country Hearth Inn in South Point Tuesday afternoon by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. Police believe Kelley swallowed drugs and had to be taken to King's Daughters Medical Center.

Police said when Kelley finishes treatment for an overdose, he will be taken to the Boyd County Detention Center.
