Police release details in officer-involved shooting in Huntington

Huntington police said an officer shot and wounded a suspect after he reached for a firearm.

Police said Joshua Ramey, 26, of Huntington was arrested and received non-life threatening injuries in the shooting, according to a news release from the department.

Police said it happened 9:15 p.m. Monday on Bostwick Road in the Guyandotte neighborhood. Police received a call about a suspicious person and met the suspect outside of the home. Police said the suspect became combative with officers who deployed a stun gun to try and subdue him. Police said the suspect reached for a firearm and an officer fired one shot, striking the suspect.

One officer was treated and released from the hospital for injuries. The police department is consulting the Cabell County Prosecutor's Office and charges are forthcoming in the investigation.

The officer involved will be placed on administrative leave and will be offered counseling. The name of the officer was not released.
