One killed, one injured in car accident in Clendenin

Deputies have identified the man who was pronounced dead and woman who was seriously injured in an early Friday crash in Clendenin.

Jacob David Belcher, 37, of Indiana was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from Sgt. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

The passenger, Heather Leigh Putz, 31, of Indiana was taken to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, Humphreys said.

The accident occurred about 12:30 a.m. on Friday. Humphreys said the vehicle, a small pickup truck, was traveling north when it ran off the right side of the road, struck an embankment, then struck a tree on the left side of the road.

Preliminary investigations show alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in the crash, Humphreys said.

Deputies are still investigating the crash, with assistance from the West Virginia Office of the Medical Examiner.
