Richard Ojeda, the fiery state senator from Logan County who has drawn attention for his no-holds-barred floor speeches and Facebook Lives, has won the U.S. House 3rd Congressional District Democratic race in West Virginia.

Ojeda was declared the winner by The Associated Press. He won the democratic nomination with more than 27,000 votes.

"I'm not the typical polished politician," Ojeda said.

Three other candidates squared off against Ojeda – state Del. Shirley Love, D-Fayette, Paul Davis and Janice Hagerman.

Ojeda has been a name that's stood out and rose to prominence in past few years and months. He gained a huge following during the statewide teacher strike.

He says he is fighting for the working class and also get pensions for coal miners. He says he will start campaign for the general election today which he plans to win.

"It's about being available to people putting boots on the ground going to all 18 counties and getting to meet these people," he said.

While there is no incumbent, the seat was red before and filled by Evan Jenkins. Ojeda will take on Delegate Carol Miller, the winner in the primary of the seven-candidate GOP race, in November.

"We are going to continue to do our live videos where people get to get on there and speak to us, ask us questions," Ojeda said. "I don't do polling. I say what questions you have and I answer them on the spot. If you disagree, let's debate about that. You may give me a different perspective and I'll change my mind."

Ojeda says he really couldn't have won the primary election without the help of his team of 1000 volunteers.
