Kenova man accused of sexually assaulting 19-year-old girl
KENOVA, W.Va. (WCHS/WVAH) —
Kenova police have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old girl at knife point.
William Michael Smith is charged with kidnapping and sexual assault, according to the Kenova Police Department.
Police said on June 5, the 19-year-old victim was walking along Beech Street when Smith approached her, held a knife to her throat, and forced her to a secluded location where he sexually assaulted her.
Police said the victim was able to break away and call for help.
They said when they found Smith he tried to run but was eventually arrested on 12th Street.
Police say Smith had already spent more than two years in jail in the 80s for a first degree aiding sexual abuse charge and he is a registered sex offender.
He’s being held in the Western Regional Jail on $75,000 bond.
